Meet the Team

Simon has been involved in translation and localization since 1980, when he was co-founder of INK International, the first software localization company in Europe. After the acquisition in 1993 of INK by a US company, he moved to California for a few years, to support its integration. Back in the Netherlands in 1996, he set up MediLingua: the translation company specifically geared to the medical sector.

Having managed MediLingua for 27 years, in 2023 he handed over the responsibility for the daily operations to Henk de Jonge, who took over his role as Managing Director. As founder of the company, Simon is still involved in MediLingua in an advisory and supervisory role, serving as sounding board for the management team and ambassador for the company.

He used to be involved in the Localization World translation conferences as a member of the Advisory Board for the Life Sciences pre-conference days and gave many presentations on aspects of medical translations and regulatory affairs. He served a 4-year-term as member of the Board of Directors of Translators without Borders (TWB), an organization facilitating the work that professional translators volunteer to do for humanitarian organizations. In 2012 he set up the TWB Health Translators’ Training Centre in Kenya and presented his healthcare translation course to over 250 linguists in Kenya and other countries in Africa.

Henk has been Managing Director of MediLingua since June 2023. He studied Law and Work- and Organizational Psychology at the Free University in Amsterdam. After his studies, he worked as a researcher and consultant for several years before being introduced to the translation industry in 1992. Fascinated by the diversity of people and cultures within the translation world and technological developments, he remained in the translation industry.

From the beginning of his involvement in the translation industry, he has focused on general management, project management, setting up translation processes and technological developments. This led him to co-found Doczone, a CCMS including translation technology for technical documentation, in 2006. He was also involved in the further development of the translation system XTM as a shareholder from that period.

Since June 2023, he has combined management positions at MediLingua and Scriptware, a general translation agency where he began his career in the translation industry in 1992 and has been a director since 2003.

Esther joined the MediLingua team in 2021. She principally deals with multilingual projects in the field of dentistry and spinal surgery, and has extensive experience in working with multimedia projects involving subtitling and voice over.

Esther holds a university degree in Translation Studies from the University of Groningen, in Spanish, Italian and English. After her studies, she went on to live and work in Spain for 2 years. Back in the Netherlands, she worked as a case manager for IBM for a few years before returning to her passion: translation. Before joining MediLingua, she was a project manager for a general translation agency, dealing with large projects in a broad spectrum of fields (e.g. technical, legal, marketing).

Esther is a native speaker of Dutch, speaks fluent English, Spanish and Italian, and B2-level German and French.

Joyce's principal activities involve translations across all fields of medicine, drug registration and medical research. She is also our in-house medical writer, writing everything from symposium reports and summaries of advisory board meetings to news articles and scripts for animated patient information leaflets.

She joined MediLingua in September 2004 after completing her studies in Biomedical Sciences and obtaining a minor in Journalism and New Media at Leiden University.

Joyce speaks Dutch and English.

Since April 2000, Simone has been responsible for financial and personnel administration at MediLingua. Prior to this, she worked for a major international bank.

After having completed an internship, Miranda started working as an editor for Medilingua in 2021. This involves working on clinical trials, websites, commercial material, IFUs, and PILs.

Miranda has a bachelor’s degree in Dutch law and a master’s degree in translation, specialising in legal translation, from Leiden University. She also completed an elective course in French language acquisition during her studies.

Miranda is a native speaker of English and Dutch.

As Quality Assurance Editor, Jowen performs language and quality checks on an array of translated texts, including website texts, commercial texts, IFUs for medical devices and clinical studies. Additionally, they check whether SPCs and PILs conform to the EMA QRD templates.

Jowen has studied Biology (BSc) and Translation (MA) and has been working in the translation industry since July 2021, where they started out as a translator. They gained an abundance of biological knowledge and completed a specialisation in medical translation during their education, which has made them fully able to comprehend complex biomedical texts. Jowen started working at MediLingua in June 2022.

Jowen is fluent in both Dutch and English and is interested in Scandinavian languages.

As a QA Editor, Francesca revises a large variety of texts and performs QA checks on clinical trials, websites, commercial material, IFUs, SPCs and PILs.

She has been working in the localisation industry since 2010 as a transcreator, content writer and project manager, specialising in the marketing, audiovisual and publishing industries.

An Italian native speaker, Francesca holds a Master’s degree in Literary Translation from Milan’s Civica Scuola Interpreti e Traduttori (a partner of Strasbourg University), where she studied English, Dutch and French. She also has an N4 level in Japanese and has been enrolled in a small group course since late 2019.

Since 1998, Annemarie has worked as a project manager for MediLingua, principally dealing with texts concerning all aspects of clinical trials and medical devices.

She’s a sworn translator for Dutch and English and has successfully completed a course in medical and pharmaceutical translation in 2011, as well as a minor in editing scientific publications.

Annemarie graduated in Translation Studies at the University of Amsterdam and went on to work as a translator, editor and account manager in an international translation company, where she also completed a management course.

Annemarie is bilingual in Dutch and English. She also speaks Spanish, French and German, and is currently learning Portuguese.

Esther revises a great variety of texts and performs QA checks. She has experience with working on clinical trials, websites, commercial material, IFUs, SPCs, PILs and checking whether texts comply with QRD templates issued by EMA.

She has been working in the translation industry since 2011, predominantly as a translator and reviser. Before that she studied at University College London and obtained a Master’s degree in Translation Theory and Practice. She has successfully completed several French courses as well as a beginner’s Italian course, a minor in literary translation and various courses on audiovisual translation and a post-editing course. She is also a sworn translator.

Esther is a native Dutch speaker, fluent in English and at B2 level in French.

Justin has been working at MediLingua since 2000. His tasks include technical support, project management and in-house desktop publishing (DTP).

He was born in the UK and has also lived in France and Belgium. He graduated in European Studies and Politics at the University of Kent. He has worked as a technical editor, technical writer and project manager at various international translation companies.

Justin speaks English, Dutch and French.

Jelle has been working as a Project Manager at MediLingua since 2022 and manages projects related to dentistry.

He holds a college degree in Biotechnology, majoring in Forensic Sciences, a university degree in Scandinavian Languages and Cultures, with Swedish as main language, and a master's degree in Translation Studies. He speaks Dutch, English and Swedish, can also read and understand Frisian, Danish, Norwegian and German and is learning the basics of Japanese. With a combination of these Alpha and Beta diplomas, he feels completely at home at MediLingua.

Mischa has been active in the translation sector since 2000, mainly as a translator/reviewer, dealing with a variety of text types, including ICFs, product information and package leaflet texts, as well as commercial texts and websites. His duties also include QA checks and checking product information texts for compliance with the applicable EMA QRD templates. Mischa is fluent in Dutch and English.

Since 1998, Mary has been working as a project manager at MediLingua. She is mainly involved in translation projects in the fields of orthopaedics and dental implants. She has followed courses in orthopaedic medical technology from the University of Dundee.

She studied Technical Writing at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, United States. She came to the Netherlands as an exchange student and worked as an account manager for IT projects at an international translation company.

Mary is a native speaker of English, speaks fluent Dutch and tests in at B2 level for Spanish and French.

Michał has been working as a project manager at MediLingua since 2019 and he primarily manages medical brochures and other projects related to dentistry.

Thanks to his extensive experience as a project manager at various translation agencies, he knows all aspects of translation and editing projects into multiple languages for multiple clients. Moreover, he enjoys working with different file formats at MediLingua.

He holds a university degree in German Language and Literature and speaks German, Dutch, Polish and English.

Wytze has been working at MediLingua as a Quality Assurance Editor since January 2022. He works on a variety of medical texts in a multitude of languages.

He has studied Comparative Indo-European Linguistics at Leiden University and has developed a broad interest in the world’s languages, and those belonging to the Indo-European language family in particular. He completed an Italian language course in Rome and is always improving his skills in some language or other.

Wytze is fluent in Frisian, Dutch and English.

Laureen has been working as a Project Manager at MediLingua since 2022 and she manages projects related to dentistry.

She holds a university degree in Japanese studies, Asian Studies, and is currently finishing her master’s in Translation Studies. She speaks Dutch, English, and has a N2 level in Japanese.

As a project manager, Agnita is mainly involved with texts on all aspects of clinical trials of medicinal products and regulatory documents for medicinal/radiopharmaceutical products.

She joined MediLingua in September 2001 after a career as head of the editorial department of a large medical publishing house. She studied English, French and Spanish at VU University Amsterdam, and is a sworn translator for Dutch and English. Agnita worked in London for three years, as a technical writer/translator at an advertising technology company.

She has successfully completed a course in medical and pharmaceutical translation in 2011, a minor in editing scientific publications in 2013, as well as a minor in transcreation (process of adapting a message from one language to another, while maintaining its intent, style, tone and context) in 2016.

Agnita speaks Dutch, English, French, Spanish and German.
